I am with great pleasure observe the craziness that “rakeshpoorun” created around the buy of a Fane’s new production run of Studio 8M drivers. The Cat
Romy, In another life, I would have derived some pleasure fro...

It looks like the hornresp-heads over DIYAudio.com got their Fane Studios and it looks like they like it. Some of them not realize that Fane 8M is sort of DSET Trojan Horns as they will not be able to defeat Fane’s VC inductance with single serial co...

I take it back, 100Hz is pushing it regarding horns and compression drivers I know of. I can't imagine a compression driver reaching the midbass muscle of the Fane S 8M. And I don't see why one should try, when the Fane reaches 120Hz so effortlessly....

I am tracking down some pretty solid leads for genuine fane recone kits for studio 8M and 10B 16 ohm.just thought i would get this out there, might be useful for someone who would like to convert 8 ohm to 16 ohm or for safety longterm backup.i am sure...

Gentleman.... I have available 2, NOS Fane 8M speakers. They have never been used and are still in their original packaging materials. I obtained these some years ago for a project which I did not pursue and would be interested in selling them. ...

HI AllHas anyone one here have any experience with Yamaha 6681B. I have a good pair with working original diaphragms lined up. I will be looking at using them in a 400hz Le Cleac'h above a 100cm 160hz Horn, possibly with a Fane 8m from the current GB...

Merely the horn-loaded combination of an S2 and a Fane 8M, driven by a full range Melquiades, is a world away from any ordinary speaker. It requires musical intelligence to arrive at that conclusion in the first place, iterating over a million possib...

Congratulations on building and arriving at a place where you are happy. It is often difficult to know when to finish persuing something in life. I am sure you will enjoy litening to music more without listening out for areas you can improve on.Aside...

Romy, are you going to verify the decision of using fragile vintage drivers?E.g. by trying JBL midbass drivers? They would be closer to the design philosophy of the Fane Studio 8M.http://www.jblpro.com/components/maxout.htm#2020H...

I was simulating the Fane S 8M in hornresp, your favourite program, and then I tried B&C 8PE21 and it was almost identical. Then I tried to simulate the 18Sound 8M400F and it went lower than both of them. Listening tests on youtube comparing the ...
I can't find a/the post(s) where you describe the advantages of using a 4 inch throat. Stereo-lab makes both 4 and 8 inch throat 140Hz horns but I don't think they could make an 8 to 4 inch adapter...
With Fane 8M you wou...
….However, as I have said previously, my interest in Fane is strictly limited to this production run and nothing more sinister as you seem to insinuate. On the other hand, you had no problem being quoted on PurePower's site as a u...

Tonight I finished two
horns at once. One was a shortened Goto S-150 horn that now has a
Fane S 8M, without back chamber so far. Dimensions are now 1.1m deep, 11cm throat, 75cm mouth. It is replacing the Avantgarde
Trio midbass horn r...

I’m not convinced at this point that it is good – I need to see it more in context of everything else - but the initial results are very promising. What I do now, I keep the compression Fane 8M in horn but I very dramatically increase dumping of it...

The Delta Pro-8B looks like a very fine driver, in fact on the paper it is even better then Fane (with exception of sensitivity and inductance) The problem is that no one knows how this driver will sound until it is loaded into a specific horn, no o...
I was under the impression that you did not at all electrically roll off the upper bass, and that the small throat would do all the (kinky) low passing.
Nope I did roll of the upper bass channel as my driver goes all t...
Since the 8M is now no longer to be had anywhere, for love or money (delighted to be contradicted on this), would people care to suggest alternatives for precisely the use Romy puts it to: driving a round, 3-4 inch throat, upper ...
I dont expect any big changes on my system with them, but i want to be surprised!
If you have a good 10’ driver then going with the same horn to 4” and 8” Fane will give you some advantage. You will pick up some EQ at low...
By “midbass horn” I’m talking about a horn with about a flare frequency of about 60 Hz, to use with Fane 8” drivers, to start with.
(Was planning to use this horn from wherever it sounded best, try...

BTW, I was not kidding about the dual-concentric 8” Fane. They did make a version of Studio 8M with a tweeter in the middle. I have it sitting in my driver storage…Another BTW: the tractrix curve was not introduced by Br...

Thanks for the detailed answers. I will explain my setup. You are right about the dipole bass correction instead of the injection channel. Since I am waiting for both a subwoofer and the Fane Studio 8M and their horn, I am using the 12" as a b...
It is a compression driver with an 8" cone. If you want authority at 300Hz you will need diaphragm area. The Fane Studio 8M that Romy and plenty of others use for 100Hz up to 1kHz is an 8" cone driver on a 4" throat with a clo...

Thanks Romy. First the amps will be finished and then the Upperbass horns. I may even get the second DSET ready to go upstairs this weekend assuming everything goes well and nothing goes wrong. Will be nice to hear what I have at the moment in ste...
I guess it would be simple enough to add a couple of inches in order to bring the throat down to 4" in order to try the Studio 8M. I have already reduced it temporarily to 3" in order to try the JBL 2490h compression driver. ...
In the few converstaions I've had with him, Mike seems totally sincere and, as I've mentioned before, I very much hope he will one day come through.jd*
Well Jessie, it looks like your wish has come true. The Vitavox...

My work to make the Fane S 8m work, continues amd I have yet to hear my midbasshorn built perferctly according to Romy-specifications. I will continue because in early trials there was something I did like. I guess I will just end up with a measly €...

Yeah, I know it is just guesswork until the Fane S 8M and the JA6681B are in place in their respective horns. Your ideas around fixing the midbass and mids first, I have read before and they seem sensible. We can stop here, and I will finis...

I'm giving myself high fives today for nearly solving the broken piano sound in the room. :-)I'm not sure what fixed it, but I believe it to be a shelf half filled with records + two sofas and a carpet. There is room for improvement but it is a g...
